Throughout the years, Cely Construction and I have worked together on many exciting and rewarding projects ranging from outpatient health care facility upfits, incorporating state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment technologies, to office and retail renovations involving ambitious schedules and tight budgets. Recently, one such project was The Growler Station, a newly formed specialty “boutique” retail entity, in the historic West End District of downtown Greenville, SC. The latest gem in Greenville’s on-going downtown revitalization efforts, the West End initiative seeks to once again breathe new life, vitality and commerce into a once proud neighborhood, of now vacant retail and warehouse structures, that had long ago fallen on hard times and into disrepair.

The Growler Station’s owners presented Cely Construction and I with both a tight schedule and budgetary constraints, while asking that we be respectful of the rustic, natural character of the almost one hundred year old building which, in their eyes, would comprise an important part of their corporate branding. Throughout every step of the project, from initial meetings and consultation with the owners through design, pricing, bidding, construction and occupancy, I found the entire Cely Construction team, including their design-build subcontractors, to be responsive to the needs and wishes of the owners, safety conscious and committed to a successful outcome for all involved. Their responsiveness, attention to detail and proactive communication would have made any architect proud. Therefore, I enthusiastically endorse and recommend, without reservation, Cely Construction Company, Inc.

I am proudly submitting a letter of recommendation for Cely Construction of Greenville, SC.

This recommendation is the result of a recently completed project involving the up-fit of a new retail concept with Cely Construction in Greenville’s historic West End. This retail concept, The Growler Station, (www.growler-station.com), was the 2nd location following our flagship store in New York City.

With intentions of expanding our concept throughout the country, we are committed that each store provides the same exact format and atmosphere, much like established national chains. Unlike established chains, we don’t yet maintain design templates, experienced construction teams and a volume of completed stores to serve as representative examples. Obviously this reality made our team very concerned in our ability to effectively duplicate our NYC store in Greenville.

After interviewing three highly recommended viable general contractors, our decision to move forward with Cely Construction was made for a few key reasons:

Cely Construction was the only contractor who actually made an effort to understand our vision during the first meeting, while all others simply ignored this component believing that this was solely the position of the eventual architect.
Upon listening to our vision and understanding our needs, Cely Construction recommended an architect they believed would be best based on what they were hearing. An architect who proved to be superior to all others I have worked with in my career, which includes 3 residential and 4 commercial projects.
With the perceived ambiguity of the project, Cely Construction was the only contractor willing to do the work and provide a transparent cost-plus quote in a detailed manner.
Cely Construction was the only contractor that seemed genuinely interested in tackling a very unique project with an unclear road map. Even though it was our initial meeting, we felt that Cely Construction truly had a vested interest in our success.

I’m confident that all contractors initially interviewed could have delivered quality work upon completion. Cely Construction ability to deliver quality work was validated upon completion. All work was first rate and without dramatic need for punch work post our certificate of occupancy.

Most importantly, Cely’s largest advantage was their ability to manage a project that included installation of very unique technology, equipment and case goods that our team sourced and specified. These often included Cely having to use specific subcontractors per our direction, who lacked any previous experience with Cely Construction. In my past experience, saying that general contractors do not prefer this arrangement would be an understatement. Even so, Cely continued to “roll with the punches” throughout in terms of handling foreign components and subcontractors in an extremely professional manner.

From the initial meeting, through design and construction Cely Construction was an absolute pleasure to work with. I believe their ability to connect with our vision and deliver quality was confirmed when our New York City team visited post construction and believed that our location created a new benchmark and template for all others to soon follow. As an owner, I can assure you this could not have happened without Cely Construction as our partner.

Cely Construction has been a great company to work with on the many projects they have completed for Medshore. Cely has performed well and catered to our needs as owners during the projects. They were able to allow us to continue our daily emergency operations while renovating two of our operations buildings and constructing a two story masonry and steel maintenance facility on the same campus.
